Montana Scouter is authored by Ryan Jordan with a simple vision:
To raise the standard of character, fitness, and citizenship development of older Scouts (14-20 years of age) and adult leaders by promoting expedition leadership and high adventure as essential, and not dispensable, components of your Scouting career.
Ryan and Stephanie Jordan founded Backpacking Light in 2001 and have since been on a mission to revolutionize how Scouts enjoy the backcountry – lighter, farther, faster, safer, and with a lot more fun! In 2014, they chartered Venturing Crew One of Bozeman, Montana.
Ryan is an Eagle Scout, Philmont alumnus, and the former High Adventure Program Director for the Silver Marmot High Adventure Program at Camp Parsons (Chief Seattle Council) – the oldest high adventure program in the country.
Ryan is a licensed fly fishing, packrafting, and wilderness trekking guide in the State of Montana, a former Scoutmaster with Troop 676 in Bozeman, and the Montana Council High Adventure Committee Chair and Program Director for the Montana BSA High Adventure Base (MOHAB).
Ryan holds a Ph.D. in biofilm engineering from Montana State University, and has lived in Montana with his wife, Stephanie and son, Chase, since 1995.
